Joker Work Out Gear

I LOVE Purple and Green! They are my favorite colors, and while I have always liked the Joker, I have always thought our affinity for color has given us a bit of a bond. Ok, not really but with the exception of a few incarnations, I have always liked his style.

So, here is a sort of  Joker inspired Workout Wardrobe...and a Wish List:

via
Let me start with, yeah, this jacket isn't cheap...at all. But, I DO like Athleta as a brand, and, if you can find this jacket used, it would be great. As spring starts to heat things up, this jacket is uber convenient because if folds into a fanny pack! Holy moley! It fits snugly to your bum, so as you're running, it won't be that uncomfortable.

I seriously want this jacket!
And of course a running top:
via
I also like this top because the ruching will detract from my tummy!

And of course, some running capris:
via
I actually have this pair, and they are very comfy. And yeah, I got them cause they are purple and green.I like them as they are compression, so they stay put and stay comfortable!

Lastly, some shoes and a headband to keep your hair out of your way, (and to bring in that orange Mr. J is so fond of...)
via
And some shoes:

Hope you liked this Joker inspired workout gear! Next will be his favorite main squeeze!

Do you have any exercise plans this weekend? Hiking, running, snow shoveling?

Uzumaki Naruto Inspired Fitness Cosplay

On Sunday I posted a Supernatural inspired workout and some gear to get you into demon hunting beast mode.

So as a way to inspire me, and hopefully you, here's another workout outfit based on the young ninja: Naruto
via
I had a hard time finding an orange track jacket or sweatshirt that didn't have a sports team logo. All of which their matching colors happened to be blue and orange...but I don't really have any team affiliations (except ManUnited...). But I found this cute blue jacket and thumb holes!
via
Sweat wicking top:

Some shorts:
via

Some blue shows like Naruto's shoes!
via...though I feel like these match his shoes a bit more...
And this outfit would not be complete without reppin' the Konohagakure, or, the Village Hidden in the Leaves:
via
But, since it's winter this might be warmer, and I think this would be easier at holding back one's hair, and it's fun and home made (always good right?).
via
I'm not usually an orange girl, but, since the sun is setting pretty early, it is a bit more reflective than my usual winter wear. Also, I figured this would be a fun way to wear it!

Also, sometimes when I run, this song is on my playlist, and I can neither confirm, nor deny that maybe, just maybe my pace quickens cause secretly, I'm trying to be a ninja...just sayin'! (Also the tempo is great to keep moving to)

Supernatural Workout Inspiration

I thought I'd share a workout theme from one of my favorite shows. Also, I figured I'd start sharing some workouts inspired by movies, shows, and--if I can find them--comic/books! Trust me, this is going to be a thing ;)

I thought I'd start out with the show I currently am running behind on due to, well, running. Due to my increase in physical activity, I'm a few episodes behind on Supernatural on Hulu+. So I think that maybe I can incorporate some strength training using just my body weight and still, catch up on one of my shows.

In case you haven't seen it, Supernatural is a show about the two Winchester brothers, Dean and Sam who come from a line of slayers demon-hunters who travel all over Canada the US, hunting demons, helping ghost and poltergeists move on, salting and burning, and well, dealing with all the heeby jeebies! The writing is quite fun, and you can tell the cast really has a blast with the show. My fiance and I are pretty darn hooked!

So here's the first fandom work out!
First the workout:
via (& pinned)
But you know, what workout would be complete without out some great workout gear?
None! NONE I tell you!
And with that some gear:

via (and pinned)
And if its cold/raining in your neck of the woods (or you want to sweat some more):
via

And a flirtier cut:
via
And Some very necessary workout shorts (I also like these since they are red and black, and the design reminds me of classic rock band Van Halen a little):

via

If you're like me, I like to throw some leggings or "bike shorts" under these just to have a bit more fun, and also they can make these shorts more comfortable.

And of course some cool shoesies!
via
Or for you runners who may desire a "barefoot-sans-bruises" feel, try the ultra comfortable, if admittedly ugly Vibram Five Finger shoes!
via

PS: those toe shoes--like Izma--are hideous beyond all belief. But, unlike Izma, they are AMAZINGLY comfortable! I wear my one pair to comic con ALL the time, and my feet don't kill me! Also, if you cosplay a barefoot character, they're pretty great too!

Lastly, in case you'd rather be running, or doing cardio (or need some serious tunage), and still want some Supernatural influence, here's a "mix-tape":

Hope you enjoyed the Supernatural inspired gym/running post!

Would you be interested in doing this?
Is there a movie, or show you'd like to see me highlight?

Progress Report - In Picture

Happy first Friday of 2014!

So I'm going to share this brief, but very personal post with you all. I've been running and lifting some Kettle bells to lose weight.

I've lost a bit of poundage, but a significant amount in inches, at least for me. So, I'm going to do two things I didn't think I would do, but I think I NEED to do to keep me on the right track. I WILL cosplay this year! I will be strong! I AM seeking to inspire!

First - Confession! I am 5'3"...and currently weigh 174.7. That's not HEALTHY for my height...at all.
And for the second here's a picture of my progress (as seen on my Instagram):

Like Ash, I want to be [my] very best, like no one ever was!!!!

And so this Blastoise (how I feel and am proportionally),
Blastoise from Bulbapedia
is trying to wiggle her way down to a tiny turtle Squirtle!
By ItsBirdy
I'm not trying to look like anyone (though yeah I feel that pressure...a LOT). But I am going to look my best!

This week I am really inspired by all the people I know in real life and the blogging life trying to make good choices too. It's the beginning of the year, and a beginning for a new way of living life!

Its tough but: YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Working Out 12/28/2013

Hope your Christmas was brilliant! Mine was tiring, but fun, and went WAY more smoothly than I hoped (and yeah, I was hoping for a good plan).
So, I guess first off, I’ve lost 2 pounds this week! YAY! This last week + a day (12/20-12/28) I have been the most serious!

I had started with T25, and I had even started off VERY strong…and I stumbled with Thanksgiving. In my defense both my immediate family, and my in-laws made some amazing food, but, more than anything I just got lazy with T25. Work got intense, and I was tired, still not a good enough reason.

This week however, I’ve been stepping it up. I am using my days/hours of off time (for the holidays), to do the sport I am most horrible at/like the least: running!

I was once a naysayer of running*, until 2009.  *(to clarify, know that my running/ran/run  word usage is in actuality me jogging/speed-walking. I’m not that fast, and am klutzy. But I’m trying to increase my pace to burn more calories!).

In 2009 over the course of a year, I lost 50 pounds. I also ate right, and stopped drinking soda (which is easier the more you stick with it, and more importantly, the more people actually support this decision…withdrawals are a b***h though). But yeah, I ran around 15 miles a week (3 miles, five times a week). And let me tell you, early morning weekend runs are surprisingly the easiest, because they are done and out of the way, and, BONUS: you don’t waste your Saturday and Sunday sleeping in! That means, after running, I can watch all my fandoms, and not feel guilty or lazy! (logic)

To help with the running, I also splurged on some newer, better fitting exercise items: new sports boob-container bra, black and purple fleeced leggings (which I got cause it was cold), and some light-weight purple and green capris/spandex (?) “leggings” (because since Sunday, it’s been 78 degrees farenheight Fahrenheit here in San Diego…not even a grey Christmas). Also, I got what I am calling my flashy Joker-meets-GIR running jacket!!! It has thumb holes, and is purple and green—thinking about it, all my running stuff is purple, green, black and orange (workout shirt) for this reason.

For Christmas, my parents got the Tenor and I a Wii. In 2009, I used my parent’s Wii, WiiFit, and the board (scale/balance checker) to help me lose weight. It was rather inspiring seeing my fat Mii lose weight along with me. In fact, it was a nice reality check as to the weight I was losing, since it showed the weight loss when I had a hard time seeing it for myself. The Tenor and I have weighed in since we’ve got it. I really like Nintendo games, and I can FINALLY play my Animal Crossing: City Folk again!

I am also upping my game in the kettle bell workouts! I need to build some muscle to help metabolize and burn fat, in case there are days I can’t exercise. Especially for those days actually. Also, burns a bit more too I hear. I am actually afraid of bulking up though, which I am told is irrational.

So far, I have been eating light, not drinking soda (typing this gives me Pavlovian feelings for Dr. Pepper though…), avoiding bread. I should avoid cheese, but, I don’t think that’s happening just yet.

My ultimate goal is to cosplay as Princess Emeraldas;  Nightmare Moon, Pixie, Zoe Washburn, and, my crew and I have a secret project we want to do.

I don't have a New Year's Resolution per se, other than to keep this up.

What do you do for your health and wellness?
Any resolutions?

Weekly Intentions #2 : Thanksgiving Edition!

This will be a brief post, but, this week is CRAZY!
  • Enjoy time allowed with friends! What little time that will be allowed outside of family obligations...such as tonight when we watch the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who in theaters! We bought it on the Xbox 360 already to avoid SPOILERS but I still need to see it on the big screen!!! Also, Turkey bowl on Thursday morning. Not a fan of American Football (The Anti-footbal as I often call it). But it should be fun.
  • DOUBLE THANKSGIVINGS!No panic attacks! You read that right. This week we have two thanksgivings. But these are already scheduled. However, my intentions for these two events is to enjoy them, rather than be stressed out by the social pressures of all this. Seriously...the cray-cray has already happened!
I am assuming this is how I will be feeling at one point, or another, or by the end of the week!
Pretty sure things are going to be fine though...Just a bit anxious!
  • Write a "Thankful" List with the Tenor! I think we should each write one, and then, maybe write one together. Maybe I will post them here too?
  • Take a breather. With all the family (and maybe future family) coming in this week, it gets a little stressful. I need to make sure to take a time out so I don't make myself anxious and...well, avoid being the "Eeyore" of the group.
  • Be Health Oriented. With all the food out this week, I need to make sure to avoid what's bad for me. I need to be sure to exercise NO MATTER WHAT, and make good choices. And with the two thanksgivings going on, I can't cave into family members' cries of "oh, but it's only once a year." TBH, I am really stressing this time around! And unfortunately my FAVORITE item is my mum's mac n cheese...It's a once a year dish--with good reason; CARBS+CHEESE?!?! Sooo bad!--but dang! It's SOOOOOOOOOOOO delicious! I'm telling myself one serving. And not "one plateful" as my serving, but one serving of a proper size! Also, I need to post pics from last weeks T25! Monday's pic, and Friday's picture of my self...I could actually see a difference! That is uber motivating!!! Yes, in friday's pic i am in a dark shirt, but I could tell without the shot! And I feel confident in possible success!!! :-D
  • BONUS INTENTION: B-Movie Night! Last month, we had a B-Movie night featuring the surprise "hit" Sharknado! I want to have one this week featuring FDR: American Badass...wherein FDR contracted polio from a werewolf bite. "FDR and a team of historic figures seek victory in World War II by defeating an army of Nazi Werewolves." How could one NOT feature this...this GEM, on a B-Movie night? But I am open to suggestions! Hoping this happens though!
Well, I hope your Thanksgiving week is a groovy one! Stay healthy while you enjoy! And remember, if your family has crazy drama, it will make a GREAT book or movie!
Also, books are wonderful friends to take to family functions! Have one ready if this week is not your thing!

#CK4C or, Cardio and Kettle-Bells for Cosplay

Cardio and Kettle Bells for Cosplay.

I am tagging this as #CK4C.

This last year I have put on quite a bit of weight.

I am neither comfortable, nor, OK with this. So, for the last few weeks my husband and I have been making efforts to change our outer shells.

We have been eating really healthy. This is something we struggle with. We live very close to the Best Blessed Burger—you may have heard of it as “In-N-Out Burger”…seriously, this place is a gift from above! So GOOD!!!

Also, pasta. Pasta is easy and quick to make. And it’s EASY to fill up on it. And, it's not the best for everyday.

We LOVE vegetables, but we often forget the best rule of cooking: mise en place (putting in place, or, setting things up before hand, so all cooking time is strictly cooking time). So, we choose quick, and easy foods, which are usually, not the best for you.

These last three weeks, we have changed that.

We have been eating LOTS more veggies and lean protein (which believe it or not, IS our normal). We are consuming beets and Brussels sprouts like they are going out of style! And—the real game changer—we are making sure to eat breakfast.

This has been making a huge difference.

But, while diet is about 75% of weight loss EXERCISE is a HUGE help in achieving fitness goal. I will be doing cardio, and weights.

I am starting with primarily cardio. Running was something I was NOT a fan of. In 2009 I started running/walking/jogging (it was all three as I had very little endurance, but I would push myself) and lost A LOT of weight. Like, 30 pounds in the first 3.5 months, and 60 over a year.

Then I started grad school. Stress, plus homework, and long work hours...oh, and planning my wedding, I let myself kind of go.

Well, no more I tell you. NO MORE!

The hubby and I have been walking about 3 miles together after work every evening we have off together. This past Thursday I worked on learning how to use weights--primarily : KETTLE BELLS!!!!

I really like the exercises she helped me with (OMG! SQUATS! My quads are still sore!), as well as the ones from

Pumps & Iron

! Such as this:

500-rep kettle bell workout

As for cardio, in addition to running, I want to do Zumba, and, T25.

I already have Zumba, and believe it or not, it is kind of fun. I do feel goofy, BUT, Zumba

has

improved my dancing skills from non-existent to not-the-most-embarrassing-person-at-a-wedding. It is a GREAT way to level up your "dancing game"

and

 get in shape.

As for T25, my friend has become a Beach Body coach, and has had amazing results. T25 is by Shawn T. You may know him as the guy who created Insanity. Allegedly, T25 is the 25-minute (NOT 25-Day) version of Insanity. I like short workouts, because I can combine them with other ones and not lose all my free time. Also, with 25-minutes, let's be honest: there's NO excuse not to work out, right?

Also--thanks to the power of YouTube--I have been able to try out T25 for new inspiration for Cardio!

I might have to save up some money, but based on the YouTube preview I just did...DANG! It's pretty awesome. You can check it

here

, if you want to try it too.

My friend

Topher

is planning on starting his cardio for cosplay in January. He and his partner attend Comic Con with my husband and I. All four of us want to get in shape. We have an AWESOME group costume idea (or two **winky-face**) we want to do, and we all just want to get healthier! Including Queen Emeraldas!

Queen Emeraldas

Anyway, I am on my journey for Cosplay readiness. And, cute clothes wearing again times!

So, wish me luck, cause I want this! And I plan on getting it.
